I was 17 at the time. My friends and I skipped the afternoon classes to attend this all day concert with local bands in the afternoon and The Dead coming on at 8PM. We went on stage and helped the band set up to avoid paying the ticket fee. Jerry told me no one ever helps them with the equipment and he thanked me. It was a wonderful night with everyone dancing & partying but started pouring rain late in the evening. The dead played on in the open air and invited everyone to come on stage. About 2 AM Jerry announced the police had arrested Rock Scully & they would play 1 more and then go bail out Rock.

Didn’t even know who I was hearing. I was 13 – my Dad taught there.
