Best “Dancing In The Streets” ever played. Anyone know what guitar and electronics Garcia used on this show?

The one other FUNNY thing I remember was standing outside Barton hall in that cold rain and watching the scalpers lose their shirts. The weather was so bad that only people with tickets were showing up. The scalpers were so desperate they couldn’t even get face value for their tickets and everyone was laughing at them and telling them to piss off.

I remember the weather was just like Bruce said, beautiful Mother’s Day in the morning, deteriorating into cold rain and then heavy snow. I was a senior at Cortland State and busy wrapping up the end of my senior year (so unfortunately, going on to Buffalo was out of the question). I had some trouble getting used to the “new Dead” since they went back on the road. They were slick looking; nice clothes, styled hair, much more polished and show bizzy than the old hippie band I’d loved. First set was what I call “deeply okay”. Then the second set simply blew me away. When I hear that Morning Dew, I can still see Jerry almost bent over double, with furious passion. I think of a Saturn V rocket that keeps firing the next stage over and over as it gets higher and higher, even breaking out of orbit.
Nowadays, people are skeptical when I say I was there. But I was.

Not the greatest show, but an interesting one, Garcia was hot, the rest of the band seemed a little flat. Most memorable was the weather; when we got to Cornell in the morning, it was warm and sunny, playing with the frisbee on the lawn, waiting for the liquor stores to open at noon. Clouded over and started to drizzle, so they opened the doors a little early to let the crowd in out of the rain. Went out the doors after the show to find 6-10 inches of snow and still coming down hard. Could not see the roads, could barely see the front of the hood. Had to drive back to Clinton, NY, that night, had college finals in the morning. Part of the trip was drive a few hundred yards down the road, stop the car, get out and walk to see where the road was going, drive a few hundred yards down the road, get out and check, repeat, repeat. Made it back to school, slept for an hour, maybe, aced the final. December 1977 I was sitting in a corner in the NoName bar in Sausolito, sipping tequila on ice, reading a book (traveling the country solo for several months on a Norton motorcycle) when I heard a group of young ladies swapping Dead show stories at the next table. One of them started to tell a story about a friend of hers who had taken this crazy ride back to school for Cornell the previous spring and the crazy driver who had to get out and walk the road to see where it went. Turned out she knew the friend of mine who I thought was asleep all the way home in the back. Small world.Travel a few thousand miles on a scooter, walk into a tiny bar on the other side of the country and hear somebody telling stories about me.
