I wiggled my way backstage before the show; I said I was doing an article for the Roger Williams College newspaper (I was the editor and only writer). I hung around until Jerry had finished the sound check, and I walked up and introduced myself. I started to ask him some question I had been working on for days; but he interrupted me and said “so what’s your story?”. I was overcome with emotion, as if a long lost father had taken an interest in me. I managed to get out that I was going to grad school to study Psych, that it was the Dead and he that had sparked my interest in consciousness. He listened, fully engaged, until a roadie walked over and interrupted us. He got up, and said to me, “good luck, man”.
And it was a great show……

First show I ever went to. I went alone and was in the 9th row. They played Sugaree for what seemed to me a long time.
