Show Facts
In the days leading up to this show, it was amicably decided that Tom Constanten and the band would part ways. This would mark his last performance as a member of the Grateful Dead.
Later that same evening, the band's hotel was raided by local police resulting in nearly twenty arrests and drug violation charges. After posting bail, the Dead were almost out of funds. They added another New Orleans show on February 1st and persuaded Fleetwood Mac to stay on for the additional performance. At the gig, a bucket was passed around the audience to collect extra cash in order to help them out with their legal troubles.
The band would eventually immortalize the raid with the lyrics, "Busted, down on Bourbon Street" in their song Truckin'.
