I remember laying out on the grass on a beautiful sunny day in December (I actually got sunburned) at Compton Terrace watching people throw Frisbees and playing hacky sack when suddenly they were tuning up disturbing whatever groove I was in. But then everyone but me was dancing to Hell In A Bucket. To watch the sea of people moving up and down to the high and low rhythms of Bertha was spellbinding. Soon I picked up my own Dead dance was grooving along with everyone like we were all part of one large organism. The band looked like they really were enjoying this show and Bruce Hornsby was a great addition. Appeared they were laughing at times through Valley Road. Much different vibe 2 years later with cloud cover.
