It was my first rock show. Yes, there were two shows that night. I remember hearing the band through the walls while we waited in line outside. We got one of those beautiful slow “Heaven’s Doors” on the white Travis Bean guitar with the aluminum neck. I was hooked on Garcia and the Dead from then to now. I remember hearing “Don’t Let Go,” too, but both songs could have been played twice, so the set list here could be from the first show or the second.
Maria Muldaur was at the top of the bill, but either she opened both shows or she went on once between the two Jerry shows. It was a benefit to save a redwood grove (or was it to save the old buildings?) at Camp Meeker on the Russian River.
