I was a Dead Head/Surfer back then and Huntington Beach was a blue collar beach town, nothing like what it looks like today, pier excepted.
The Golden Bear was a small unpretentious spot where patrons sat at picnic tables with red and white checkered cloth draped over them.
Up to this point I’d never seen Jerry play a side gig before. All I can say I was pretty damned blown away. Sanders and Garcia performed a version of Dylan’s, “ It Takes A Train to Laugh”, which is still burned into my memory as one of the greatest covers of all time! They also did an amazing cover of “My Funny Valentine” which was also amazing.
What a great place the Golden Bear was and all for $12 bucks

Great venue, intimate setting, sat just a few feet from the stage, ran into Jerry in parking lot after show, shook the hand that shook many

I love the way this old recording sounds…muffled, 2nd-gen, instruments ‘flitted’ with fuzz and vibration…
