There is a reason it went on until 3am (the after party went past dawn), the James Gang went on first and challenged the Grateful Dead to a “battle of the bands” and proceeded to play for 3 hours.
The Dead responded in kind and prevailed.
The reason there is no set list is that they played every song they knew including all of the as yet unreleased Workingman’s Dead and American Beauty. They closed with a 25 minute jam of Dancin’ In the Streets.
I only wish I had as clear memories of the after party in Bovina Center that Bob Denver hosted.

This was my first show,I walked out. I guess I wasn’t ready. Today,130 shows later…it was grate music,grate friends,grate memories. Thank you Jerry,Phil,Bobby,Bill,Mickey,Pig,Keith,Brett…and all Deadheads.
