Announcing Electric on the Eel: August 29, 1987 for Record Store Day Black Friday
We’re heading back to where the Electric on the Eel magic started in celebration of Record Store Day’s annual Black Friday event. On November 29th, the Jerry Garcia Family and Round Records will release Electric on the Eel: August 29, 1987 for the first time as a 3-LP set available exclusively at local, independently owned record stores.
Organized by Bill Graham Presents and the Hog Farm Family in support of the Black Oak Ranch, this event marked the Jerry Garcia Band’s debut along the banks of the Eel River and the inception of what would become a beloved bi-annual concert series running through 1991. Garcia & co matched the hot climate with an equally scorching set dotted with favorites including a triple dose of Dylan (“Forever Young,” “I Shall Be Released,” and “Tangled Up in Blue”), and a blistering “Deal,” amongst other highlights. The complete performance was mastered from soundboard recordings by Fred Kevorkian with lacquers cut by Chris Muth at Tallowa Mastering.
Electric on the Eel: August 29, 1987 will be pressed in a limited edition of 4,000 Orange Sunshine colored vinyl. Visit RecordStoreDay.com for more information about the event and for a list of participating record stores near you!
