I was at this show and it is even better than I remember!!! Sat at the table next to Cyril Neville’s table

Ha! This was a great show. Jerry’s first night of the year after the unfortunate cancellation of the January Warfield run, and wow did Jerry make up for that! This was the only time I saw the Garcia Band do Bob Dylan’s “It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry” which was an obvious highlight. The rest of the show was very strong as I recall (no recording I’ve found yet…hit me up if you know of one) including two more Dylan GEMS in the second set, “Simple Twist” and “Positively 4th Street.”
So after every Warfield JGB gig plenty of folks would exit ASAP and run around to the side of the Warfield to watch Jerry exit with his briefcase and get into his car. This was never my thing, I usually was content basking in the glow of the room and friends rather than rushing out immediately to the streets of the Tenderloin. This night…was different. I was certainly enhanced and ended up floating out of the Warfield right after the “Moonlight.” I wandered around and stood with the heads who always waited for Garcia. After a few moments Jerry came out with his briefcase and was walking towards his car. Lots of folks saying “Thank You Jerry”, “God Bless You Jerry”, “We Love You Jerry”, etc.
What did *I* yell at Garcia in my enhanced state after this gig?
“We LOVE Bob Dylan, Jerry! We love Bob Dylan too!” – yeah. In retrospect, a pretty weird thing to yell at Capt Trips but what can I say, those 3 Dylan tunes really spoke to me this night. Jerry was a champ about the entire thing, looked me right in the eyes and flashed a grin and a shrug as he did to so many over enthusiastic heads over the years and then he hopped in the car and was gone. I met up with my friends and we went to Original Joe’s for a late bite and joked about the goofy verbosity I hurled at Big Jer.
