Announcing the next installment of the GarciaLive series: GarciaLive Volume Two: August 5th, 1990 Greek Theatre scheduled for release on

Announcing the next installment of the GarciaLive series: GarciaLive Volume Two: August 5th, 1990 Greek Theatre scheduled for release on June 25th, 2013. GarciaLive Volume Two captures the classic latter-era lineup of the Jerry Garcia Band in the very familiar surroundings of the Greek Theatre in Berkeley, CA. Recorded during a fruitful period for the band, which has resulted in two previous releases (Jerry Garcia Band and How Sweet It Is), this show features a guest appearance by acclaimed banjo virtuoso Bela Fleck to kick off the second set with a fiery rendition of “Midnight Moonlight” and an otherworldly adventure on the Jimmy Cliff classic, “The Harder They Come.” <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ag9Wcc_N_p4" title=""Run For The Roses"" target="_blank">Click here to lay your ears on “Run For The Roses” from the opening set.

The Jerry Garcia Band made use of their home turf in 1990, performing throughout the Bay Area an astounding 19 times in that year, including multiple runs at their adopted home of the Warfield Theatre. Jerry and the band, including longtime cohort John Kahn on bass, Melvin Seals on organ and David Kemper on drums, as well as “The Girls,” Jaclyn LaBranch and Gloria Jones on backing vocals, stretched out in the summer sun on this early August afternoon show. Highlights, beside the obvious fireworks created on stage with Fleck, include a lilting “Stop That Train” and a bouncy “My Sisters and Brothers.” But on this day, Garcia clearly had the Bard on his mind, lending his deft touch and heart wrenching vocals to Dylan chestnuts “Forever Young” and “Tears of Rage” before sending the crowd home with a bounce in their step after a mesmerizing “Tangled Up in Blue” show closer. Once again, this performance cements Dylan’s own sentiments that nobody had a touch with his songs quite like Garcia.

Pre-Order bundles are now available exclusively via the Official Garcia Store.

We’ve all seen it. We’ve grown accustomed to it. We’ve even feigned shock when it didn’t make it to the stage. Jerry’s infamous black Fruit of the Loom pocket t-shirt can now be part of your wardrobe too. We’ve dubbed this t-shirt “Tour Veteran” for the number of shows its seen, but there is more to this 100% cotton shirt than meets the eye. The shirt’s label has been removed and replaced with a Keystone era Jerry illustration screen-printed in grey. The best part? Each t-shirt arrives with a flashback-inducing download card in the pocket which grants access to a special GarciaLive digital-only archival release. Don’t bother testing the wares, we didn’t take it that far…

We’ve dug into the Garcia Vault and selected the Jerry Garcia Band’s first public performance at San Francisco’s Warfield Theatre on June 26th, 1981. Grateful Dead bassist Phil Lesh replaces Garcia Band mainstay John Kahn on bass for the evening. Melvin Seals (organ), Jimmy Warren (electric piano, clavinet), Daoud Shaw (drums), Essra Mohawk (vocals) and Liz Stires (vocals) round out the evening’s line-up. The Garcia Vault contains only the evening’s second set, but we found the band’s performance too compelling to let an incomplete show keep an otherwise stellar recording from release. The five song set features “Mission in the Rain,” “Harder They Come,” “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” and “Dear Prudence” segueing directly into the show closing “Midnight Moonlight.”

This first digital-only release has been mastered for release by longtime Garcia collaborator Joe Gastwirt and delivered in your choice of formats: 320kbps MP3 or lossless FLAC.

This 100% cotton t-shirt will be available for purchase in the Official Garcia Store beginning today for ONE WEEK only. It may be April Fools, but we’re not pulling any pranks. Don’t miss out.

GarciaLive Volume One Released Today!

Ladies and Gentlemen: Today marks the official release of the first volume from the newly-launched GarciaLive series. GarciaLive Volume One features the Jerry Garcia Band’s early and late show performances from the historic Capitol Theatre in Passaic, NJ on March 1st, 1980. The band, which included Garcia on guitar and vocals, partner in crime John Kahn on bass, Ozzie Ahlers on keys and Johnny d’Fonseca on drums at the time, was wrapping up a three-week East Coast run with the performances on this evening. Highlights to our ears include the opening “Sugaree” [listen], a take on the Jimmie Rodgers penned rave-up, “That’s All Right,” an early show encore of “Deal” and a rollicking version of “That’s What Love Will Make You Do” show Jerry and the band loose and fluid at the end of the tour.

These recordings have been meticulously mixed and mastered from the 24-track recordings originally captured for WNEW’s broadcast of the early show. Listen comfortably with our promise that every effort was made to produce this performance for release in a manner which honors the spirit of its creation.

GarciaLive Volume One: March 1st, 1980 Capitol Theatre is available now in the Official Garcia Store, iTunes, Amazon, independent record stores and other music stores. A limited number of t-shirt and poster bundles are still available and will remain in the Garcia Store until sold out.
